I just recently bought a 175 Johnson, that I still have no idea what the model number or year is. I have it narrowed down to 1982-1984 just by talking to some of you guys and some guys from johnson tech support. My question is: Can I buy a used 1983 OMC manual that I found on ebay for $25, and it work? The manual states it covers 2hp-V6 (mine is V6) 80-235hp.

Re: manual?

That's not an OEM manual. Third party shop manuals aren't very good. Have you looked at the top rear of the block for a core plug which may have the model and serial stamped on it.

See below my signature for sources for OEM shop manuals.

Complete waste of money, the real manual is just for your engine ...which has nothing in common with a 2 hp.:)

Some yrs the 150 and 175 hp use the same block and the manual is good for both.
The seloc manuals are called "official shop manual" , but they aren't the factory service book you think they are.
