Default Used Boat Advice

Sometime in the next year I am looking to move up to a used express cruiser in the 28-30 ft range from the mid 80's to the early 90's. My first question is about having a survey done. If the seller has a recent survey, would I be smart to have another one done for myself before I purchase? The second part involves brands to possibly stay away from from that era. I have been looking primarily at Sea Ray and Regal. I'm a little afraid of Wellcraft because of the stringer problems I've read about. Larson is another brand I've looked at. They seem to be priced right, but I know nothing about their quality. Any advice from you experts would be most appreciated. I currently own an 89 Sea Ray 220 Sundancer which I purchased 2 years ago. It has been a great boat.

Find a Baylner. They are great cruisers, having owned 3. Best boat for the money, very strong and reliable. Any surveyor worth his salt will cut through all that bull and tell you the same thing!! Sandi.

definitely get a survey..Sea Rays can't be touched in that range of express boat. tons of 30 dancers in our marina, quality boat.lot of Cruisers and Renkens showing up lately in that class, but pale in comparison to the SR's quality...
