I have been working on this motor in the backyard and running it in a tub of water. I took the prop off so I wouldn't tear up my tub. After running it the last time I noticed oil floating on the water and sticking to the sides of the tub. Is this normal since I took the prop off?? Or is there a problem with my lower unit? Thanks.

Perfectly normal nathan. These old 2-strokes use fuel/oil mix as you well know. However, not all of the oil is bunned during each compression. As a result, any unburnt oil exits out the back of the motor along with the exhaust gasses and water. Don't worry, once you're on the water it won't be nearly as prevalent. great motor you got there!!!!

Not all of the oil in the fuel/oil mixture is burned but is rather simply dumped overboard on the older engines. I suspect that this is what you're seeing. It has nothing to do with having the propeller on or off.

However, do keep a check on the lower unit gearlube.
