Lower unit 1996 mercury 175 efi

How hard is it to remove and replace the drive shaft that comes through the water impella to the lower unit? Is there a special tool you need or can someone with mechanical skills replace this part?

You will need a few special tools so as not to damage your gear case, but a relatively handy person should be able to do this job, Is this a salt water motor? If so, this job could be a little more involved.
