The motor on the sailboat we purchased has a remote electric start and has an alternator for charging the battery though I do not know if the alternator is working/hooked up. We have a green wire that isn't hooked up to anything at either end as that is how we received the boat. The boat has a battery selector switch with OFF, 1, 2, and BOTH. Ideally we would turn the battery switch to 1, then turn the key past on to start, and the motor would start.
Can anyone tell us why the starter turns over when the battery switch is turned to 1 or BOTH, when the key is on, but not turned to the start position yet? We have to start and stop the motor using the battery selector. We are using the key in the on position, pushing to engage the choke, then turning the battery selector to 1 or BOTH.
Thank you for your ideas.
