I am changing out my power pack on my johnson 130. I read on some sites if you change your power pack you need to change both if not the old one can make the new one go bad. I think I only have one. Are they talking about the RECTIFIER & REGULATOR ASSY? Do I need to change the RECTIFIER & REGULATOR ASSY with the power pack? If I dont can the RECTIFIER & REGULATOR ASSY cause the new power pack go bad.

Before you go throwing out your power pack, what makes you think it is bad? What motor are we talking about, year, model number? If in fact your power pack is shot, and needs replacing, you do not have to change the rectifier as well.

But a little more info would help in guiding you

Re: Johnson V4 130 power pack

My motor is a 96 model v4 j130tledm. The reason I think its the power pack is im only getting fire to one spark plug. I changed the coils around and still get fire to the same plug. I put the wire coming from the power pack to coil thats getting fire on a different coil and then that plug started fire and the origanel plug that had fire quit when i switched the wires from the power pack.

It sounds like it's the pack but you could also have some timer base probs. The best way to check this out is with a DVA meter and a OEM factory service manual.
