Hello, came across this deal and was wondering if it was worth the money. I'm not familiar at all on these older Chrysler motors so was hoping for some input here. The guy says it's a 1972 Chrysler 9.9 with electric start and that all works well. How reliable are these motors? It is only $300, so I'm inclined to buy it, but was just wondering how difficult it would be to work on and find parts for this motor. If anyone has any experience with this, I'd be all ears to your opinion on it. Thanks a lot!

Normally I would say it is too much, but
1. it is electric start which is nice
2. It is a 9.9 which is always in demand because of lake horsepower restrictions

From your comments, it appears that 300 dollars will not hurt you but if it were me I would try to work the seller down a little. After all, while some of these engines will run almost forever, it is 39 years old.

I didn't see the photos--they didn't appear until after I answered. That engine is a short shaft autoelectric. Electric start with the starter mounted on top of the flywheel and it may also have a lighe under the plastic top. The real question is why it was painted black. It should be the Chrysler white/cream color

Yeah, I didn't think it should have been black. As for it being a 9.9, I don't really have any horsepower restrictions around where I'm at and have actually been looking for a 15hp motor. Would I just be better off to keep looking for a 15hp for a little bit more, or is this a good enough motor to buy (I have a 14' jon boat that this would be going on). Thanks.

If that hood is for that motor the year is 1968. The decal at the hood were placed that way only in 1968, but check at the id.tag to be sure.
300 dollars are a little to much and if it is a 1968, YES to much.

That's a really cool old motor but I don't think I'd pay $300 for it. That money would be better spent towards a 15 that you can still get parts for.
