working on a 1988 28 hp wth the non through hub exhaust, anyway in trying to reconnect the shift linkage i srtipped the lower bolt...i dont really understand how this coupler works, is there any adjustment? it disconnects from the lower linkage, im assuming it will from the top as well!, cant i just take the whole coupler off, run a bolt through the bottom hole attach it to the lower linkage to the coupler and slide it up the tube to connect it to the upper part of the linkage?? i stripped the bolt, because i had to keep loosening it...i couldnt seem to get it in the right position, again is there a set spot or is it adjustable?

Re: shift linkage...stripped bolt

Sure you can,If you want a new I just got one for 10 bucks on ebay for a shortshaft there were 2 forsale so one is left.
The rod has to be in the coupler then a bolt goes in.You'll see at the end of the rod )( the bolt passes through the narrowing of the rod
