Hi guys...I'm in the middle of trying to figure out my fuel problem on the gamefisher 3 hp outboard (bogs down at full throttle). While taking a break from that, I wanted to change the lower unit gear oil as this is a fairly newly aquired engine. I took the gear plate off (after taking the prop and pin off and the two bolts holding the plate on) but am having trouble getting the plate off the shaft. It slides back about 2 inches, but gets stuck when I try to pull it off the shaft. I wanted to pull it off completely to look at the seals, etc.

Speaking of that, the oil was kinda black/brown...is this normal or could it be a sign of leaking seals? Anything else you recommend that I check when I'm in there?

Finally...the gear plate gasket was damaged and I understand this gasket is not available anymore. Any recommendations for the waterproof marine silicone/sealant that I should use? Do I need to seal the bolts as well?

Thanks for any help you can give
