Oil on Spark Plug Threads

I have a Merc 115 4 stroke. When I changed the spark plugs recently, I noticed oil on the threads of the old plugs. What could be causing this?

Winterizing? It's common to put a teaspoon of oil in the spark plug holes.

Do you maintain the motor yourself? Is it new to you?

Thanks for the reply. It is a 4 stroke and I use it year round(I live in Texas) so I don't winterize the motor. Yes. I do maintain the motor myself. I don't recall seeing this previously.
