I have a 1995 Yamaha Pro 60hp
2 stroke.

Great motor! Never has been any trouble.

Have thousands of hours on it trolling(fishing) at low rpms.

Last year it was losing mid and top range. Still trolled down great but bad top end.

Ran Ring- free in it. Seemed to help a little after the fouling out stopped.

Also would run better, more top end, after motor was running for and hour or two.

Without any more info, is this a possible sign that it needs new rings and/or pistons or carbs are dirty?

With so many hours on it, do the pistons need replacing usually?

Thanks in advance.

Check compression or leak down test to see if cylinders are sealing properly still. Thousands of hours sounds kind of high.
If you have not cleaned the carbs lately I would be looking at them and the fuel pump, before you hurt a piston if it is running lean
