6o HP Merc power trim issue

While servicing my power trim assembly I inadvertantly forgot to remove the anode prior to removing the trim assembly from the bracket. After servicing and re-installing, the motor started then instantly stopped. I hear the solenoid clicking which tells me that either I have a bad ground or the motor is shot. The service manual mentions noting the position of the ground strap. Needless to say, since I did not remove the anode this step was missed. Where exactly is the ground strap located? Could this be the issue or could it be more serious? Any help would be most appreciated.

Re: 6o HP Merc power trim issue

The ground strap you mention has nothing to do with the electrical operation of the trim unit. This strap is a bonding wire, and serves only to keep the trim unit in a grounded loop with the rest of the engine. It is to help protect the trim unit against any galvanic action. The trim motor gets it's ground through the wires from the motor, and no where else. You operational problem lies elsewhere. Good luck.
