Re: 125 head replace

The block will physically bolt up to the match plate. However, you will need to replace some or all of the studs with the 1989 studs. Right now, I don't remember if the shift and throttle linkages are the same -- there may be a mismatch there in the way they mount, since Mercury controls use a rotating shift rod and US marine used the old pull-push rod to shift. Timing tower may be different too but you can probably swap in the 1989 parts.

Re: 125 head replace

After doing some research i found out that Force stopped making the 125 hp in 1989. I was looking to buy a used 125Force and the guy told me that it was a1994 Force plus it did'nt have the s/n on the motor so its hard to say what year it was. Thanks for the help.

Re: 125 head replace

Well, I'm guilty for not fully thinking aboout whether or not a 125 was made in that year. However, ANY Force three or four cylinder block from 90 to 120-125 will physically bolt to the match plate. As I said, with later model Force engines where Mercury started making changes, the control cables and linkages may be different.

Do not be set on the 125 block: The 120 was actually a better engine and will give equal performance. See: the 120 is a big bore, short stroke engine while the 125 is a small bore long stroke engine. BOTH are set in the same block.
