I recently acquired a 24' boat. I'm looking at repowering the seized AQ170 and 270outdrive with a working 318 and 270 outdrive. Anybody know what kind of problems I might run into. Need to see if its going to be worth the hassle. Any Ideas or opinions would be appreciated.

Re: Boat repower

Volvo NEVER used Chrysler engines.
There were some boat manufacturers like Glastron, (Chrysler perhaps), and even a few engine marinizers like Moody Fords, Chrysler perhaps, who knows.
While parts are still available for the outdrive, hard to say where you are going to find any replacement parts for the 318 engine when they go bad.

Early 80's is more like it. I have four Chrysler Marine powered boats and have very little issues with parts.

EDIT: 1984 was Chrysler Marine outboards last year , Inboards until 1990

When was it last used with a Volvo outdrive, that's the real question.

I was given an 82 Fiberform that had a chrysler 360 with a VP 280 leg, stripped it out for parts, the boat was rotten. Sold the motor and leg, not sure if the buyer ever got it installed.

Like I said, Volvo never used Chrysler engines, I did not say Chrysler never used Volvo, matter of fact I said they could have.
