I have used my Mac Tools digital light on many motors without too much of a problem. It is a bit finicky, sometimes not triggering and sometimes not locking on 2 Stroke. Most often I can get it to work. It provides a good RPM read when working. Tried to get it to work on this Mercury and I can get the lamp to fire but the RPM shows quite erratically and way high. Bought a new Craftsman, same thing. Is it something about this Mercury that I can't see.

Thanks for the response bullet 101. I see that there is a problem with your suggested unit. Difficult to see in outside light.
Glad I am not the only one has a problem.
I can add a little to my post.
In the back of the little hand book that came with the Craftsman unit there is a mention of a lack of capability when used on copper wire plug wires. They say that you must change the wire for a resistive type wire and then put the original back after testing. What a load of BS.
Anyone else have a take on this?
