I tried a to polish a small area on my bass tracker boat with mothers aluminum polish worked great lots of black came off but i read not to use it on anodized aluminum. Since so much black came off does that mean it is not anodized. It says not to use it on anodized aluminum guess my question is weather it is anodized or not. Is it safe to use it on my boat it is a 98 tracker pro team 175. How can i tell if it is anodized or not. Mothers told me that since so much black came off that it was not anodized.

Nope they are not anodized....... you are just removing oxidation. Anodizing would cost more money and tends to harden aluminum so boat hulls are normally left alone.

Aren't aluminum boats treated somehow? As I understand it plain aluminum will heavily oxidize
if imersed in water as the bottom of a boat would do.It developes unsightly nodules.

Folks do polish their aluminum boats and they do look beautiful. But I don't think there is any way to keep them that way short of polishing often.
