I have a 97 Proline 2950 with t225 on a Gil bracket. One one the mounting bolts is leaking water into hull.

Best repair, remove bolt and re seal? Seal around joint between hull and bracket?

What type or sealer do you recommend ?

Thanks.

Re: Gil Bracket Leak

Welcome to iboats.

Two schools of thought here.

Re-drill the hole oversize and fill with epoxy or marine tex then re-drill to proper size.

OR

Remove the bolt and slather up with 3m 4000 series sealant and re-install. You will see 3m5200 on the shelves and even a polyurethane sealant available at walmart which is the same formula. IF you use 5200 or the atwood polyurethane sealant then in the future you will have a hell of a time removing that bolt. Those are permanent sealants. I use a little sealant on the bolt and on the washer and tighten properly. No leaks:)

BTW Those polyurethane sealants take almost a week to fully cure.

Re: Gil Bracket Leak

Very often , the reason the bolts come loose is the transom has compressed and left the bolt loose, the nut didn't unscrew.
If you don't find any rot by test drilling , you might want to consider if the transom to stringer joints need beefing up.
Also, consider water is likely leaking into the transom.
You can drill test holes under the bracket mount to keep it hidden, fill hole with sealant.
Look for wet or rotted drill chips.
