I have a 1994 mercury 150. I just replaced the water pump and I hooked it up to the hose in the yard and I couldn't get it to spit water out unless I gave it some throttle. I was wondering if anyone knew anything about this.

Drop the lower unit again and make sure the copper pipe is lined up with the rubber fitting. The rubber fitting maybe folded over obstructing the water flow. Also check for impeller pieces from the old water pump they could also cause problems. Hope you figure it out.

Mstate, Run the beast on a flusher device. If water exits the gratings above the antiventilation plate, the motor is pumping, and it is likely the thermostats have not opened. At idle speed, in neutral, on a flusher, the thermostats may never open, and you will not have a telltale.
