1989 yamaha 150prov motor oil pump problems

I have a 1989yamaha150prov. the emergency switch on main oil tank works but it appears that pump on subtank will not run when oil in main is low without emergency switch. How do u test this or any othwer comments. thanks, pommelake

thank you seahorse5. where is the sensors located to tell subtank motor to pump oil to main tank, is that in the float assembly itself or black box?

The float level and pump on and off sensors are in the engine mounted oil tank. This diagram may help
