Hi,
I am new at boating. I have a 78 omc stinger manual shift 800. with the engine off, I shift it to forward, I am unable to spin the prop. when I shift it in neutral, I can spin the prop either direction, and when I put it in reverse, I still able to spin the prop either direction. Does that mean my reverse gear is broken?

Welcome to iboats.

To your question, its more likely just out of adjustment. Get your manual and read how to adjust the lower shift cable. That should fix it up.

Hi,
I would like to know if it correct on land first, before I put it in water. So, with the engine OFF the prop wont spin in gear, forward or reverse and spin in neutral. And with the engine ON the prop will spin in gear, but will not spin in neutral, right? thanks

there is no valid test on land- you'll damage the shift cable if you keep messing with it

Why don't you put muffs on it and see what it does?
