How long is the fish?

The head of a fish is 10 inch long.

The tail is as long as head plus the body.

The body is as long as the head and the tail together.

Hey, it's too cold out to do anything and I'm going nuts with cabin fever. :D

Think that's impossible, Bubba....;).........maybe the tail is as long as the head and half the body?

80"

YD, 72 is the correct answer if the head is 9" long ;)

For the next riddle, I'll save everyone time and tell you I'm an idiot. For the life of me I've always had a hard time with these dang things. My dog can figure them out and get frustrated while trying to explain it to me.

It was an average m8 :) ... dont think 80" is correct..just too simple..

Me too, but I had to work out the correct answer after finding out how to solve the problem.

Set up equations from what is given in the problem: H = Head; T = Tail; B = Body

H = 10
T = H + 1/2B
B = H + T
Total Length of the Fish = H + T + B

Substitute between equations.

If we know H = 10 then we can substitute 10 in for H in the second equation.
T = 10 + 1/2B
Now we know what T and H are, so lets substitute that into the third equation and solve for B.

B = H + T
B = 10 + (10 + 1/2B)
B = 20 + 1/2B
Then subtract 1/2B from both sides:
1/2B = 20
Multiply both sides by two:
B = 40
Now we know the value of B and the value of H. Substitute this back into the second equation and solve for T.
T = H + 1/2B
T = 10 + (1/2)40
T = 10 + 20 = 30

Plug all values of H, T, and B into the final equation.

Total length of fish = H + T + B
Total length of fish = 10 + 30 + 40 = 80

Aagghhhh....I'm back in high school algebra again. Well, time to ditch class and play video games at the pizza place down the road.

Total length of fish = 10 + 30 + 40 = 80

I don't get it....He says "the tail is as long as the head plus body"

But then again, there is alot of things I don't get. :)

And I thought I found all the differences, my head hurts, just remove the 1/2 from the equations and figure it out.

I sure picked a bad day to quit drinkin'

Re: How long is the fish??? Mind boggler.

H = 10
T = H + B
B = H + T
Rearrange the equations to yield (sub in 10 for H)...
T = B + 10
T = B - 10

At this point we have 2 equations and 2 unknowns. It seems pretty obvious to me that there is no real solution to this question the way I interpreted it. I suspect that the trick here if there is one is in the wording. Perhaps the last line means B = H * T making the 2 eq and 2 unknowns

T = B + 10
T = B/10
B + 10 = B/10 --> 1 + 10/B = 1/10 ---> 10/B = -.9 ---> 1/B = -.9/10 ---> B = -11.11

B is negative so another looser. If anyone wants to double check my math feel free, I did this off the top of my head with no calculator. I agree with what Sasto originally stated. That's impossible Bubba.

I came up with 40 inches

Head and tail are both 10 inches and the body is the same length as the head and tail put together.
h=10 t=10=b=20 =40.

H+B+T= how long do you cook it on the grill, and what do you garnish it with.

So, the next time a Fish and Game Rep or a Game Warden asks how long is that fish checking to see if it's a legal size.......... just give him Bubba's answer :D

How long is the fish?

The head of a fish is 10 inch long.

The tail is as long as head plus the body.

The body is as long as the head and the tail together.
