What year is this ?

I know NOTHING about boats and want to starting to work on one my father left me.
It has a 50 hp Mercury and the cowling says Thunder Bolt Ignition on it. The only serial number I can find is 7097987. What year is this? What is the best source for a manual?

This thing has been sitting for probably 8 years but when I took the cover off I was able to turn the flywheel so I am encouraged that it isint frozen. I have a lot to learn starting with the fuel mixture and how to connect the lines and battery. Any suggestions where a complete novice can get an education?
