Bought a 1983 Viking deck boat last year with a 5.0l that had not been winterized and so the motor was completely trashed. I bought a 5.7l from Rapido marine and ran the boa the rest of the summer with no issues. I would like to replace the intake manifold and move to a 4bb carb/w electric choke this year but am not sure if I should be looking for a specific casting number for the intake or if any older 4bb intake will work. Getting a carb is pretty straighforward but I don't want to make a mistake about the intake manifold. Any advice on what I should be looking for? I've located an older manifold but am not sure if I should be worried about casting numbers or not. Thanks.

Ayuh,... Whatever intake manifold you buy Has to match the bolt pattern of the heads....

If you boat in Saltwater, you need a cast iron manifold...
If you boat in freshwater, you can get by with aluminum...

Where are you boating? Fresh or salt water?

Fresh water only.

My reference to casting numbers is exactly what I am referring to. I am looking for where I can match the compatible manifolds to the casting number on my block. Thanks.

Ayuh,... The casting #s don't really matter a whole lot...
To see the Head casting #s, you need to pull the valve covers,...
It's easier to just observe their bollt pattern...

If it's the original 1983, you need the Early intake manifold, the 1st big change was 87... Next pattern change was 96...

Of course, you still need to match the Carb bolt pattern as well...
