I bought a used boat that came with a trolling motor that was not connected and I'm trying to figure out how to hook it up. I'm a moron when it comes to this stuff. It does have a plug in the front of the boat for the trolling motor but I am going to have to order the male end to attach to the trolling motor. So I chased down the wiring from the female plug on the boat back to where it will hook to the batteries and there are two red and two black cables in the battery compartment. I looked at the back of the plug and there are a black, red, and orange cable coming out of the plug then the red goes into a connector and comes out with a black and red, the black and red goes through a connector and comes out as a black and red and they all four run back to the battery compartment. Now the trolling motor itself has two wires coming out of the pedal that I assume go into the male connector. Okay What I need to know is how to hook the cables into the battery just neg to neg and pos to pos? I included a pic to clear things up.

Re: Motorguide 6700 pro series wiring question

Have you had any luck? I have a Nitro boat, 2001 I think, and only get the fast speeds. Not sure how I am wiring it wrong. I think it is wired right but am looking for a little breaker, 40amp. Think this might be my problem. Let me know please. Any help would be great. Thanks.
I called Bass Pro Shops and the boat guys said
use the jumper for + of #1 to - of #2.
neg to neg and then + to +. nothing worked.
I went red to + of #1 battery
orange to + of #2 battery
jumper from - of #1 to + #2 battery.
Black wire bundled with red (#1) to - of #2 battery.
Something isnt quite right.
