im trying to get the outer transom sheilds off a twin bravo set up.

the clevis pin that attaches the steering fork to the inner steering ram (sorry for my terminoligy) seems really stuck....vice grips wont turn it....i have penetrating oil on it.
the seloc book says they slide out.

is there a trick to this?....i dont want to beat on the pin so hard i break the inner housing...can heat be used?
or is this because of the twin set up?
possibly pressure from the adjoining ram?

any help?

Ayuh,... With the cotter pin out, 'n any pressure off it, it should just pull out...
Does it twist,..??
Can ya heat it without burnin' up the barge,..??
If so,...
Get it as Hot as ya can, up to Red Hot,...
Then throw cold Water on it, Quench it Cold...
It'll slide right out after that....;)

I wouldn't do much Beatin' on it,...
I believe the tiller arm is cast steel...

the seloc book says they slide out.

They do ......... what they fail to mention is the amount of heat, and persuasion from percussion instruments needed to "SLIDE" out. ;) :D

If the twin setup places a "load" on the pin maybe you can remove or adjust a link to allow some play and then remove your pin.
