3 years ago I bought a new 22' deck boat, with a new 175 optimax.. ran like a top, at the end of the season I got into some shallow water and sucked some gravel into my motor, I took it back to the dealer and they cleaned it and put in a new waterpump.. I took it out and between 1000 and 2200 rpms the port side (i think) of the motor will get hot and the alarm will go off.. we hooked a digital gauge up while in the river to see the temps. I have since in the last 2 years had no less than 4 water pumps put in, the whole motor has been completely tore down twice looking for a blockage..the dealer has called mercury and did everything mercury told them to do, they even put a pipe inside a pipe to increase the water pressure, which it did,, it has a really strong stream coming out of the motor.. but it still gets hot.. and the bad part is.. the rpm range is where I run almost all the time while dragging my kids around on a tube.. today I called the dealer and mercury instructed them to fabricate a scoop or funnel or something like that, that fits on the foot so more water will be directed into the motor.. they are going to test run it Monday.. have any of you ever heard of this problem before? thanks!
