I aquired a chrysler 20hp outboard that neeeds a new lower unit, and I found one that is off of a 1979 motor. My motor is a 1975-1976 motor. Would the two be compatible?

Thanks, Tristan

Re: Chrysler 20hp Outboard Lower Unit Help

As long as they both use the same size prop and have the same splined propshaft, they will swap. Chrysler made two versions of the 20: One used a 9 inch prop and small lower unit. The other used a 10 inch prop and the larger lower unit just like on the 35, 45, 50, and 55.

Re: Chrysler 20hp Outboard Lower Unit Help

The 25Hp that came 1973 (25, 30, 35Hp serie) had the same lower unit as the 20Hp with a 8 1/2x10 prop. The 20Hp had 8 1/2x8 1/2.The 30Hp dropt out in 1975 and the "new" 35Hp was intruduced. In 1977 or 1978 the 25Hp became 20Hp (same powerhead but with the 30, 35Hp lower unit).
So if it is a 1979, no it will not fit. The 1979 has the lager lower unit.
