40 HP Serial # ob133945.

I looked at the sticky file and don't see this serial # on any of the 40 hp's.

I believe it is the original motor on a 1979 Bass Tracker II but I'm not sure and was hoping to figure this out.

Any idea's from the experts on here?

Thank You!

The hood and mid-section indicate it is a 40hp. I'll try to post a pic when I get home from work tonight. You think someone swapped the hood and mid-section? Or... could the transom mount be taken off a 35hp? I guess anything is possible. I'll post a pic later.

Thanks carholme!

JK;

Can you find the silver dollar sized plug on the powerhead which has the s/n to see if it differs from the one you posted?

As well, how many cylinders is it?

Carholme... The s/n on the silver freeze plug appearing thing on the side of the block has the same # w/o the "o" before the b133945. It is a 2cyl. Here are some exterior pics with the "40" decals on the hood and mid-section. Any idea's? Doesn't look like an 87 model to me.

JK;

I have cross referenced several data bases and that s/n number definitely comes up as a 35 hp, model 1035717, 1987. Even the 45hp s/n range is for 1987.

Does your decal set have the "Thunderbolt" ignition decal seen in this link for 1979 decals?

Is there any way you can provide a readable picture of the data plate?

Yes - I have the "Thunderbolt" decal.

I'll try to get a better picture of the data plate and the "Thunderbolt" decal when I get home from work tonight.

Are there any mechanical differences that I would be able to pin-point other than 5 less hp. :mad:

JK;

Here is the clamp bracket from the 1987 35hp:

and the clamp bracket from the latest 1979 40hp model:

Can you tell which one you have?

As well here are the complete parts listings for the two different models and bu using fuel pumps and some other components, you might be able to see what you have:

1987 35hp model 1035717:

1979 40hp model 1040559:
