Hey all,
I'm new to the forum and have grown up around boats but never owned my own until now. I recently came to own an old Mitchell V hull with a 1980's 50 hp Mercury. I've had the engine looked at and my boat mechanic says it's sound. He doesn't like the transom and neither do I. It looks completely rotted out I would like to rebuild it in the upcoming months and was wondering what is the best way of cutting fiberglass? I was thinking of using an angle grinder but I'm wondering what wheels to use. Does anyone have any other ideas of cutting? I'm not looking for a 'Scrap it and keep the engine' response. I got this boat because it's the exacty size and shape I want. I'm out of work until April and really want to make this a spring project. I just need some guidance. Also, anyone know of any good books/videos on rebuilding fiberglass boats? I've attached some pictures to show the boat and the rotted transom. Any responses will help!
