How to remove the trim tab from my merc 50 thunderbolt. Do I need a special tool?

I can see the odd shaped bolt from the top. Bizare, but i can see it move when I turn the trip tab. Please help

It could also be a 12 point bolt. Any 12 point socket set (3/8" drive, thin walled socket) will remove it.

Mine have all been 12 point bolt heads. A 9/16" 12 point sockets will get it out nicely. As Chris pointed out, there is very little clearance for the socket to fit thru the hole.
