I recently fired up my mercury '77, 7.5 outboard. Its been about a year, a few pulls and it started right up. My issue is the water isnt spitting back out. After starting up, a steady water stream will spit out for 2 seconds then just misty air. Im just idling it in neutral but i dont want to idle it for too long if its not getting cooled? ANY helpful suggestions?

Pull the lower unit and replace the impeller, the impellers on these motors are so small and prone to breaking they should be replaced yearly. Is this in a lake, barrel, muffs?

I have it set up in a barrel. Is it fairly easy to replace the impeller?

Yup, remove the bolts holding the lower, leave it in neutral and drop the lower. Pull the pump cover, make sure the inside of the pump housing is clear of any debris. Use a zip tie to compress the impeller blades to get it back into the housing.
