This is a question for any prop experts out there. Just switched from an aluminum prop to a stainless steel prop on my 12ft Valco, 20 hp Tohatsu 4 str, cause I dinged up the aluminum one preaty bad. The new SS prop seems to fit good, however it is quite a bit heavier than the old aluminum one (same diameter and pitch). Will this mean the motor has to work harder to keep up WOT therefore less top end, or will this mean that once at WOT, more weight means more inertia and therefore easier to keep at max rpm's? On the old aluminum prop she would run 25-26mph with just myself and gear and 21-22 mph with 2 adults and gear.

Re: SS Prop Performance

SS props run a lot better. The weight of the prop won't matter.

Re: SS Prop Performance

Thanks, thats what I figured. The only experience with stainless props ive had is that my friends boats have one. Just didnt know if the motor would have to work harder to spin the heavier prop.
