Sand before bottom painting?

Hello Everyone,

Question: Do you always sand before bottom painting?

I have a hurricane 217 sd. There are no signs of blistering, etc. A marina emailed me a quote which included sanding. Here's his quote:

To lift the boat off the trailer, sand the bottom,
paint the bottom with two coats of standard Interlux Bottom Paint, and set
the boat back on the trailer would be $588.00 plus Ohio sales Tax.

Any thoughts.

Thanks,

If it requires painting it needs sanding to make sure paint will adhere. For 600 would they do my 25 foot Century? I will sure drive it back there, she originally came from Ohio.Put in bay is a gorgeous place to boat. Are you docking this boat or trailering it?

Yes, but before sanding the hull needs to be de-waxed.
Consider applying an epoxy barrier coat before the anti-fouling.
Do some reasearch.

Welcome to Iboats Paul..

21 footer with to coats and a sand for 600 plus tax..

Too cheap IMO..

779 or 669 bottomkote will run you almost 2 gals ( 200 retail or more depending on the source ) that leaves 500 for prep, tape, acetone, rags, gloves, suite .. etc..

Seems mighty thin in the price..

Just make sure they do it right being a Steal of labor cost on top of materials..

YD.
