1997 Maxum 1900SR. When I opened the ski locker, I notice the smell of gas.

Didn't ask (I will today)...but would this be normal?

NO!!!!!!Look under the motor and see if there is gas in the bildge.Move stuff around and see if it's in the locker.
The gas tank is a sealed unit.It shouldn't smell anywhere in the boat.If the tank is built in it should be vented to the outside and never smell inside the boat.If it uses portable tanks then it's possible one leaks.
Replacing a built in tank can be a BIG,DANGEROUS job.
I worked with a guy who was changing a built in tank and it blew up.He used a 18V circular saw it sparked and the fumes blew.Burns over 80% and his face gone.Jerry

Crazy Story. When I was looking for a new boat I looked at one that had a gas smell in the ski locker. The seller said it was no big deal and it has always smelled like that. I passed on the boat and three weeks later it was at a boat repair shop close to me with the deck ripped up with the gas tank out. Hmmmmm.
