I have a 4.3 OMC with a cobra i/o on an 89 Donzi Regazza. I just had the shift lever assembly off to replace the vinyl on the side rail. Upon reassembly, when I go to shift into forward or reverse, the engine dies momentarily until the shift lever moves past a certain point. Watching the shift mechanism on the top of the motor, there seems to be a kill switch that is causing the loss of power. How do I adjust the mechanism to make this problem go away? Thanks in advance. Tom...that is the ESA asm which causes the engine to drop in RPM's during shifting. It's primary use is to make coming out of gear easier but it also works going into gear so you don't get that big clunk that Merc alpha one's have. It is working as designed, it should not cause the engine to stall only stumble unless your engine is out of tune or idling too slow. With these Cobra's you should always have a strong quick shift at the controls don't drag it out or do it slowly.
