I bought a used pontoon with a 77 merc 1150 115 hp from a guy i work with. He said it is running but only had it out 4-5 times since he bought it two years ago. When i got it home i took the distributor cap off and the rotor brush was broken. I ordered another one and when i got it, it is about 1/2" longer than the old one (when you put the broken pieces together). Is it possible the old brush had worn that much, or did i get the wrong part? Also in the cap where the brush spring goes there is a lot of grease, and the new brush spring is heavily coated in grease. I assume the grease is to help with the contact, but should i clean out the old grease in the cap? Is there a grease i should buy to pack more into the cap? Thanks for any help.

New brushes are 5/8 to 3/4" long clean the cap hole with a small screwdriver and install the brush with the new dielectric grease
