About to go through my 1983 Johnson 7.5 J8RCTA. Because the engine under the cover is looking pretty dirty, as well as the lower cowling, Id like to clean and wash it down before I start on the carb rebuild.

Is there some easy way or trick for cleaning the exposed engine parts and inner lower cowling?

Thanks for any advice or experiences

um im not familair with your particular motor but i wash my 140 down after every trip i usually have it running and on the hose while doing so id use a little gunk engine degreaser where its really bad light her off and spray it down dont get carried away with the water and when your done spray the whole thing down with a light coat of wd40

Thanks for the advice levi. I suppose if one didn't spray under the flywheel (where the ignition stuff is?) water probably wouldn't affect anything else. With the motor running you'd sure know if something important got wet

Think I will give it a try after the carb rebuild.

This may sound stupid, but don't get any water in the carb intake area either.
