check engine warning

I have a 2000 Johnson 200 Ocean Pro, i get a check engine warning when i accelerate hard and over 4000 rpm, it goes away after a couple of minutes and will come on again if i accelerate it again. The engine seams to run great and has no issues. I recentley replaced my water seperator with a 10 micron filter could this be the problem?

The filter shouldn't have caused the problem unless it's all clogged up already. Normally the check eng light comes on if you have a fuel restriction in the system. Kinked fuel line,bad primer bulb,anti-syphon valve or clogged pick-up in the fuel tank.
