Hello guys I have an 1989 Evinrude xp 150 E150STLCEM, and I have been doing some searching and reading and found a few different results saying my motor has around 175 horsepower due to some factory upgrades done to these motors, is this true? Any help would be greatly appretiated

Powerhead hp rating is about 175hp, and hp at prop is about 160hp.

Also depends on condition. Take it and have it dyno tested.

Fastbullet is probably right on. Back when the hp wars raged between merc and OMC, the OMC guys pushed the hp limit. The BIA would permit engines to have a 10% hp variance and still be rated as a 150. The original factory XP and GT motors all crowded the upper hp limit. You will find your 150XP puts out right at 10% more, or around 165. To get that hp, they used 175 carbs rejetted them, adjusted the timing and sometimes installed higher compression heads. So your 150 XP has more in common with a 175 than a 150. The fact that yours is prop rated also helps-since is makes more hp than the older 150/175 engines which were crank rated.

Very few dealers have a horsepower dyno, most have the pressure type which wont tell anything about hpas it just give a range of pressures that engine should put out at a given rpm.
