How tough of a job is it? My 1996 5.7Gi is bleeding oil from the rear main seal and needs to come out. Is this a difficult job? I have the time but not the experience. Not afraid to tackle it, however. Not sure if an engine cherry picker would reach over my boat? Any advice?

Thanks, Eric 22' Davis

Which outdrive do you have? In 96 both the 290 style drive, and the SX style drive were used. The procedures are different.

Most cherry pickers wont work on anything but the smallest boats, and sometimes not even then...

To pull the engine.
1. Remove outdrive
2. Remove nuts on rear engine motor mounts
3. Remove lag bolts holding front motor mounts to stringers.
4. Disconnect main wiring harness plug from engine
5. Diaconnect battery cables.
6. Disconnect power steering hoses from steering cylinder
7. Disconnect fuel line
8. Disconnect trottle cable from engine.
9. Lift engine straight up.
10. Disconnect anything else you find attached in the process.
