25 hp hard to pull rope start

e25rcos model. when the motor is cold the rope pulls
VERY hard, plus the rewind spring takes much longer to reset. After 5-8 pulls the motor "loosens" then startes after another 5-6 pulls. The rest of the day it starts fine.
Any ideas, I can't find any other posts like this

what kind of oil to gas mixture are you running? are you primming the ball first?

I would say the rewind needs servicing...cleaning, relubing, and adjusting. You might need a manual to avoid headaches.

I agree with Mas on the rewind servicing but either your cold start procedure is off or else the mtr needs a good tune up. It shouldn't take that many pulls to get the mtr running when cold.
