Hi, everyone. I purchased a 1988 Astroglass 178v with a Evinrude 150. I gave $800.00 for it. I know absolutely nothing about stringer replacement, fiber glassing, foaming, deck repair. I am recently retired with the time to restore it but I need to do the proper research and don't know where to begin. I would be interested in a how to book that covered items from a novice standpoint. I am amazed and inspired at the projects that I see in this forum. Thanks.

Wabunn,

Welcome to iBoats! I recommend that you start by reading threads on here. You can read my resto thread for starters. Others to look at are Oopp's hull extension thread. You can also search for specific topics also. Have fun and keep us posted on your project. We will always be here to help you out. One last thing...post pics!

Thanks for the welcome.I dont mind saying that I am a little hesitate about starting a project that I know so little about. This seems to be a very common problem with a large number of boats. I have a couple of questions about where to begin. I want to try to learn the way to post pictures so bear with me. These are a couple of items that i dont know what are. any help would be nice.

This first picture is a transducer for a fish finder, using as a thru hull, usually epoxied to the hull, the second picture is a circuit breaker.

Re: 1988 Astroglass 178v rotten stringers and deck

Thanks It is really nice of yall to help us out. I took the boat to the lake to test the motor. It idled well ,planed well and ran well, about 53 mph. No bogging down, no skipping, Alt. 14.7 at a fast idle. Water pump working. I thought it was a good test run untill i read more of the forums and found out about WOT wide open throttle. Recapping my boat is a 1988 Astroglass, Evinrude XP150,weight is unknown because of the soggy foam. It has a Shooter 13 1/4 x 25 ss prop. WOT is 4200 rpm . My question Is it the foam, bad tach, or wrong prop, or should i be happy it ran and add a rebuild to the restro? Thanks again
