Just replaces water pump on 150 Merc. and I get water from the Tale Tale. Can some smart person help me??
Heres what I know!
1) all hoses clear of trash
2) impeller installed correctly ( tips lag when rotated clock wise)
3) running the engine on muffs
4) pressure gage reads 8psi at Idle
5) have not been letting engine run for longer than 1 minute
It looks like this unit is plumbed so that the tale tale should stream when the engine turns, but i'm not positive that a thermostat could stopping the flow and that I'm not letting it warm up enough.

Whatchathink?

8 psi at an idle is right, as long as the gauge zeros with the engine off you know the gauge is functioning.

The 'P' stream begins when the T-stats open and allow flow, let it warm up a couple of minutes, then give the throttle a slight blip and watch the water pressure respond.

If you're getting water from tell tale, then where is the problem?

Thanks CharlieB, I was just afraid to let it go too long without seeing water. How should it take to warm up ( thermostat open) ?

And let me correct my earlier post I am not seeing water from the tale tale...

If you are running on a flusher device, you will see water exiting the gratings above the anti-ventilation plate and perhaps thru the prop. This water will exit all the time, if the pump is working. Telltale usually has thermostats behind it, so no water until 'stats open.

Thanks All! with your advise i let the unit run for 2min and 50 sec and the tale tale started working. I guess it was correct all along I was just too skeeeerd to let the motor run long enough to find out.1111 ;)
