I have a 14ft jonboat with wooden platforms and pedestal seats on bow and stern. I want to replace the carpet on the platforms. Any advice on; 1) carpet products to use, 2) where to purchase, 3) attachment method to wood decking and 4) types of hinges to use for access panels to underside of platform.

Any feedback is appreciated.

Thanks

Re: Jonboat platform carpet replacement

I got a good deal on marine carpet from Home Depots web site. http://www.homedepot.com/Flooring-C...d=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=10053&style=List I also used their adhesive http://www.homedepot.com/Flooring/h...splay?langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=10053 which worked awesome. For hinges, if the have what you need (small selection) you can't beat the prices here http://veada.com/category-1/8-Boat-Hinges-and-Pedestals.html, otherwise check greatlakesskipper.com or jamestown distributers.

Are you sure you want carpet? I put marine vinyl on the deck of my project and I LOVE IT! I carpeted the side and bow areas.

Re: Jonboat platform carpet replacement

I have a large wooden fishing deck on front of my jon boat and I buy a light-weight ribbed(like corduroy) dark green indoor/outdoor carpet at Home Depot(inexpensive), this stuff dries very quickly, gives good traction under foot and it don't get too hot on a sunny day. First time I glued it down, but that didn't work so well because when I was towing the boat at 70MPH, the carpet would want to come loose. Now I use small Stainless Steel wood screws with washers around the edges, put them on with a power drill about 2" apart, real quick and easy, and no problem to remove to replace carpet. We use the deck for fishing, shrimping, camping, etc., etc.
