Hi all,
I have a 1975 25hp evinrude. I want to know if I can exchange the lower unit with that of another hp. I also have a question in reference to the shift rod. The rod is bent towards the bottom. It looks as done at the factory. How can I tell if the forward gear pops due to a linkage problem or bad gear/ clutch dog. I have taken apart the lower unit and the forward gear is a little worn towards the very ends of the ears. It does not look very bad and the clutch dog looks good. Can low oil pop the gear out?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

You have a few options for lu swaps, but before doing that, lets investigate further.

When is it popping out of gear? Usually at the same rpm/speed? What would that be? Was your resevoir low?

Thanks for the help Chris. Yes the resevoir was low. IT started popping out at mid rpm. Can the low fluid cause this action?
