Long Story but need help with 175 sportjet

Guys,
Well its a long story but I will keep it short. I paid a mechanic to replace my Mercury Sportjet 175 in my Sugar Sand Tango and it was only going to take him 4 days..... well 5 months later I had to get a court order to get my boat back not running and I still dont really know how to tell what engine is in it now... Now im sorting through all the mess to get it back running. I have most of the problems straight but I noticed I was missing a fuel hose(or whatever its called)from the carbs to starboard side of the motor. I have 3 fuel lines one going to each cylinder on the port side(shown in picture) and only 2 going the starboard side(one on top and one on bottom but not one on the middle cylinder). Is this correct or does each cylinder need this fuel supply (I assume from looking at it, it is for oiling the piston?) But I dont really know anything about 2 strokes or outboards.

First thing it looks ta be a 2.4/2.0 motor instead of tha 2.5 it may have started with.

Those or "bleed" lines. Some of tha early blocks only had five. You need ta get an OEM Merc/ Mariner manual. It will be a BIG help. Look for a "build date" stamped at tha base of number 2 cly. where tha block halves bolt together. Kinda right behind tha advance timing arm. Will be 1/4" numbers (m/d/y). Also may be a serial number stamped in tha welsh plug. Looks like a freeze plug. Its on top of tha block. This is just a start..................

The SN isn't on the plug. I looked all over for a SN but no luck. I would love to buy a factory manual. Once I can determine the exact motor I have I will buy a specific manual. This crap is so frustrating. Is there any way I can tell what engine I have with out the Serial Number? I didnt find the build date the block has been painted over. I have to pull the motor now anyway. I finally got it to fire up but when I hooked water to it it filled the number 6 cyclinder with water I should've never let someone else work on my boat. Sucks to learn a $2k lesson this way.
