I think initially I like the Doggy Docks item better, I think it will be easier on my Lab and easier to stow. Also I can modify it pretty simply should I need to.

Any thoughts?

Re: Dog Ladder for boats

I made a 'doggydocks' years ago for my sisters dog.
wood, some carpet and a fender, for a little Jack Russel.

Trained the dog using it on the couch, then brought it outside...once she got used to it, off to the boat!

Now with my two dogs, as soon as we get close to shore...off they go...whether I want them to jump off or not! So I have to tie them up before I dock.

Training them to use it FIRST is important.
One of my dogs is a little nervous, but using the ramp to get into the Jeep, got him over his fear.
In the water, he was little skiddish, the lab just ran up it, and jumped back into the water before the older dog got out.

Train them on land first!

It can also be used at the dock...just put the doggydock inside the boat.
And don't forget to have carpet glued down in the cockpit, all those nails are useless on gel-coat!

I was thinking the same thing, marine carpet and wood with fenders which would also make it adjustable for the larger dog (which I have) good input Fish!

Re: Dog Ladder for boats

I built one with marine carpet and 1/2" marine grade plywood. It was about 18"x 3'. Glued carpet on the wood and drilled two holes at the transom end for two stainless steel bolts (no rust in salt water) to drop in and hook into a step/handhold I had on the transom. The step has an opening at the back where the two bolts would slip into and prevent the ramp from swinging side to side. I stored it under the main berth after pulling the bolts out. Simple design that worked well.

I too like the doggydocks...
