Hi All,
I have a 10 m Scorpion RIB with an inboard Volvo D6 370 HP engine coupled to a DPR drive. For the second time in 12 months the aluminium casing of the outboard drive is showing stress cracks just above the prop shaft. After the first time the crack was not spotted in time which resulted in the complete drive crashing and having to be replaced at a cost of approx 20.000 USD. Luckily the insuranced paid for it as they believed someting had hit the prop. I doubted it but as they paid for the cost who was I too question their findings. Now 4 months into a brand new DPR drive I have spotted stress cracks again. No way will the insurance pay for this and I believe that it is a manufacturing fault.
Do you know of anybody experiencing similar problems ? I would like to compare facts .
