I have an old Chief outboard motor that I inherited from my Dad about 15 years ago. It has been sitting in my garage and did run when I first got it. I am looking into restoring it and need a bit of information so I can acquire old owner's manuels, parts, etc. First I would like to know how old it is and what horsepower. The information I have is it is a J8 (I suppose the model Number)
50692 (which I think is the serial number)
10-13-8-0-5-6 Type number.
Where would be some good sources for manuels, parts, etc.

Yep, in the 1920's. It would be nice if the OP had stumbled upon one of those, but his numbers say he has a Clinton. As Charlie Brown would say, "Rats!"

LOL Yep. Finding an old Lockwood would be a treasure. Don't believe I have seen one, outside of a museum.

Finding tune up kits for the Clinton can also be done at the lawn and garden shop. They wont have the same part numbers necessarily, but they still match up.
