2 batteries VP AQ125A

Hi guys,
I have a 1982 Baylinber Capri 1950 with a Volvo AQ125A engine. My question is will my alternator charge two batteries? I am set up for one battery but will wire two with a 1-2-all-off switch. I do not have a trolling motor but plan to start and charge on all but select 2 when stopped and radio on. Also I have a new deep cycle marine battery now. Should I buy another or a regular battery for the other one?

If you still have the original alternator, yes it will charge two batteries. It's a 50A alternator.
I will move this over to the electrical forum for info on how to hook it up.
